Woodbrain
"Woodbrain, formerly Joe McMurrian Quartet, is comprised of Joe McMurrian on guitar and vocals (and sometime banjo), legendary drummer Jimi Bott, and bass wizard Jason Honl, and David on harp and vocals. Recently signed to Memphis' Yellow Dog records, Woodbrain plays a mix of prewar blues and improvisational rock. Cryptic Americana blues, or pyschodelic blues, whatever you want to call it, this band absolutely evolves and morphs with every gig. A rhythm section with ears as big as it gets, as well as Joes great singing, picking, and songwriting. I get a lot of freedom in this band; playing melodies, counterpoint, horn lines, or effect dripping mayhem.
Mike D. and I Can Lick Any Son of a Bitch in the House
"I still play from time to time with noted songwriter Mike d. In a more acoustic setting than the old I Can Lick any Son of a Bitch in the House days, but still powerful songs"

Portland Country Underground
In the late 90's, Jackstraw's Darrin Craig started doing an annual Willie Nelson Tribute night, with David and Lewi Longmire. That band eventually evolved into the Portland Country Underground, which plays a rowdy and packed Monday night residency at the Laurelthirst Public House, playing classic honky tonk songs as well as originals. Everyone in the band sings lead and harmony's together. Featuring some great players: Darrin Craig (Jackstraw), Lewi Longmire (Fernando, Lewi Longmire band), Scott Hay (Celilo), W.C. Beck (Blue Giant, W.C. Beck), Morgan Geer (Drunken Prayer) Dave Reisch (Freak Mountain Ramblers), Matt Cadenelli (Fernando), Ned Folkerth (Caleb Klauder Band).
Red Hills
From the ashes of the Runaway Boys, comes Red Hills. Red Hills is an Americana band that mixes rock, rockabilly, punk, and country music. Dewey Nielson, singer and guitar player, is one of my favorites in Portland. Flix from My Life in Black in White on upright and vocals, Handsome Jon Burbank (I Can Lick Any Son of a Bitch in the House) on guitar and vocals, and longtime I Can Lick any Son of a Bitch in the House, and current Winebirds drummer Flapjack Texas. The boys have played together since high school, and their chemistry is apparent after hearing one song performed live.
Mark Lemhouse
Mark plays a heavy style of trance blues, in the vein of R.L. Burnside, Mississippi Fred McDowell, and Robert Belfort (his mentor), as well as Americana roots music. Mark was nominated for a few W.C. Handy Awards a few years ago, and is known as a blues player. But he's also a great songwriter and one of the deepest singers I've worked with. We play as a duo, or as a trio with Ned Folkerth on drums(the Mean Machine). Mark, Ned, and I recorded on an Oingo Boingo tribute record together, reworking the new wave song "Who Do You Want to Be Today?" into a trance blues rave up. www.deptofrecords.com

Darrin Craig and Old Boy
Darrin is the main vocalist/songwriter in bluegrass band Jackstraw. I have been playing old time string band music, as well as Darrin's original folk/country songs, since 1997. We play together as an acoustic duo, or with his full electric band, Old Boy. This is pure Americana country rock. Simple, heartfelt music. Darrin is a deep singer and weaves beautiful melodies throughout his music.

David also plays occasional gigs with these artists:
Hillstomp
Hillstomp is the two headed monster of Henry Krammerer and John Johnson. They play an intense style of gutbucket trance blues. I recorded on their first two studio albums, and appear live as a special guest from time to time.

Lewi Longmire
Lewi is a multi-instrumentalist and go to guy in Portland. We found ourselves hired into many bands as side players, and struck up a great relationship. Lewi has a killer band, and I guest with them at times, or sometimes with Lewi as a duo. Lewi comes from that strange place where roadhouse country, blues and rock all meet. A hell of a singer and guitarist, and one of the best persons I've ever met.

The Runaway Boys
The Boys have played together since high school, and are a fun mix of rockabilly, country, and rock music. They all can sing and play their asses off, and their chemistry together cannot be ignored. Dewy rights great songs, Handsome Jon (from I Can Lick any SOB in the House), plays a mean guitar (as well as produces their recordings), and Flicks is a great upright bass player. The band is rounded out by the passionate drumming of one Flap Jack Texas (of I Can Lick any SOB in the House.
